“krav maga” on “The League”

On tonight’s episode of “The League”, Kevin thinks his female “krav maga” instructor is, let’s say, enjoying groin strikes too much. His wife doesn’t care because she wants him to “get less fat”. Teaser trailer below.

The show premieres tonight at 10:30pm on FX, most likely re-rerunning all weekend.

***UPDATE 12.09.11: As expected, that had no semblance whatsoever to Krav Maga, but Krav Maga Worldwide black belt instructor A.J. Draven did have a cameo!

IFC’s Favorite Movie Knife Scenes

IFC Knife Scenes
Knives are scary. Anyone who’s done even the most cursory training with them can attest to this. Maybe this is why they make for such great entertainment. For the random post of the week: “Our 15 favorite movie knife scenes (with video)” from the Independent Film Channel.

Warning: These are movie knife fights. The clips are unedited and extremely graphic.

I’m of course happy to see both Tommy Lee Jones knife fights made the list. (I watched and playacted the Under Siege scene countless times as a 12-year-old!) And the Eastern Promises linoleum knives… The Remar/Carradine fight in The Long Riders is a great one I hadn’t seen before, and the Kill Zone and The Man from Nowhere scenes are now new favorites (extra credit for the karambit).

The I Saw the Devil scene was one I had forgotten about—more like blocked from recent memory. I do remember remarking when I first saw it that it was one of the most terrifyingly realistic knife attacks in film. The vicious brutality of that one will give you nightmares…

Any of your favorites not make the IFC’s list?

Bas vs. the Flu

HA! Bas Rutten has another commercial on Cartoon Network. (Yeah, I’m watching cartoons on a Sunday night. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?) This time he tackles germs.

This video posted on YouTube isn’t very good, but certainly good enough for a chuckle:

Bas says: “If you are not tired…”

…”do some push-ups!”

Bas Rutten, a good friend of Krav Maga, has teamed with Cartoon Network for the channel’s new health and wellness PSA campaign called Get Animated. In it, Bas encourages children—as only he can—to get off the couch and blast out some push-ups.

(This really makes me want to do Bas’ All-Around Workout right now…!)
