Kenpo Karate, Krav Maga, and Fitness for the Boston / Watertown area
Ok, clearly not Krav Maga, but you know I’m an equal-parts BJJ junkie. This is timely, informative, and hilarious!
I also love the inclusion of Doom SFX!
Yes, the reboot of Scenarios class for Fall 2013 has arrived!
This week’s scenario will be…

It’s about that time again to remind everyone to please bring a pair of dedicated mat shoes to class. NO STREET SHOES.
Marc has been consistently finding dirt, rocks, and twigs on the mats. This is not good for cleanliness nor safety. Keep in mind, too, that we train in shoes, the Kenpo classes do not. Or, if that doesn’t make you care, think about how clean and gravel-free you would like the mats for when we train groundfighting.
Having a pair of mat shoes is especially important as we draw ever nearer to the sloppy weather of fall and winter. While you may invite the opportunity to train some impromptu fall breaks, your classmates might not!
In summary, if you won’t do it for the barefoot kids, your training partners, or even yourself, please do it for Marc!
Also, while we’re on the subject of attire, don’t forget that you should be wearing either a Krav Maga Worldwide shirt, a plain white shirt, or a plain black shirt. Krav shirts are available for purchase at the school or online from KMW-approved vendors.
Check out this very thought-provoking (assuming you can still form thoughts) article from Stephan Kesting of Grapple Arts:
Lest you think this is a perfect excuse not to come to Fight class, here’s a key point:
“For the recreational MMA practitioner the danger probably isn’t that great. You’re not getting hit as often or as hard as the professionals. But PLEASE remember that you DON’T need to be in an all-out slugfest every time you train. There are ways to develop all the technical skills using drills and controlled, light-contact sparring. And if you crave the feeling of complete exhaustion and having been put through the wringer I’d suggest that you do it with grappling rather than kickboxing.”
