I planned to do this at the end of our Choke & Grab Defense curriculum, but the schedule did not permit. For the Friday 9/30 All Levels class at 7pm, we will, by popular demand, be taking a quick detour back to blending Krav Maga and Modern Arnis Jujitsu. We will train some basic compliance techniques (i.e. “partner-aided joint mobility”) for scenarios where striking may not be warranted, such as shirt grabs, a finger in your face, escorting a rowdy person from a house party, etc. We can also workshop any other scenarios you have in mind.
There will be tapping a-plenty…!

Congratulations to the students who endured the Level 1 test last Friday! All the instructors agreed that it was an outstanding group. Everyone looked really sharp, and all should be proud of their accomplishments.
Be sure to stop by the office this week for your scores and to get instructor feedback.
If you are planning to start training in the Advanced class, we will be beginning the sparring curriculum in a couple weeks. If you wish to participate, the approved sparring gear will be required. See Brian about getting it the next time you’re in.
The first step is admitting you have a problem, right? Well, I have a problem. I’m a gear hoarder. Workout gear, drum gear, computer gear… it doesn’t matter; I have a lot of hobbies, they all have gear, and I like gear. Now that I’ve admitted it, do I have to do something about it? Or is the acknowledgement the thing? At any rate, here is the first in a new category of posts dedicated to GEAR.
We do a lot of push-based movements in Krav Maga: punching, push-ups, burpees… To avoid shoulder, neck, and posture issues, it’s important to also do a lot of pulling. Enter The Almighty Pull-Up.
This isn’t a write-up about pull-ups, though, it’s about the device on which you do them! I had several different bars in my old house. None were ideal in that they were either not high enough or a bit questionable in the “structural integrity” department. For my new place, I decided to splurge on an industrial-strength bar rig. I wanted something that would yank the whole garage down before it loosened from the wall. My search began and ended where it usually does, at Rogue Fitness, my favorite emporium of kickassery.
I received and installed the Rogue P3 Pull-up System a couple weeks ago. The installation was straightforward, and I have no doubt about that thing ever coming out of the studs. It is a beast. The quality is on par with all the other Rogue gear I’ve accumulated, and the finish feels great and looks awesome.
Finally, weighted pull-ups without fear of death by structural collapse!
There have been a few further modifications to the schedule since this was originally posted last week. See below and refer to the Class Schedule page.
Effective September 12, the following changes will be made to the schedule:
We are also making slight modifications to the Krav Maga curriculum. Going forward, the two classes will be called Krav Maga Fundamentals and Krav Maga Advanced. The Fundamentals class will retain the same Level 1 curriculum but will also include some elements from higher levels that we feel are essential to a good foundation in Krav Maga. The Advanced class will remain material from Level 2 and above.
Why the name change? Even advanced students benefit from focusing on the basics, and we believe “Fundamentals” better reflects this.
