Thanks to everyone who came Monday night to train hard on camera for Alex Winston‘s documentary shoot. Check out this teaser for MMA 101 (retitled Boston mMa?). No footage from Monday is included, but these clips make me think we’ll look pretty good!
Says Alex:
Thank you for participating in our documentary “Boston mMA”. This doc is going to show different ways of exercising with a focus on MMA, CrossFit and Yoga. Below is a short reel of some of the footage we have gotten so far. We have filmed a lot of great classes and are hoping to have a 60-75 min. finished product. We will keep you up to date with our progress and let you know when and where we are showing it.
We have also started up a Facebook page (link below) titled “Boston MMA” and are asking everyone to support it by giving us a “like” and maybe suggesting it to some friends.
Thank you-
Alex

I’m personally very excited that both academies I train at will be featured (Roberto Maia and Al Bibeau, my instructors at Boston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, are in the teaser below). Yes, I’ll be the one jumping up and down at a screening yelling, “I know them! I know them!” [Don’t judge.]

Hi Folks!
To get people ready for the Level 1 test, or just give people a chance to review their Level 1 techniques, the Saturday morning class this week will be driven by the students. Come in with an idea of what you want to review. Shaky on Inside Defense? We’ll cover it for you. Can’t even remember what Inside Defense is? We’ll giggle at you and then cover it. Whatever combatives or self-defense techniques you need to work on, we’ll review. We suggest you print out the Level 1 curriculum and highlight (in yellow) what you don’t know.
A good work out will still be had, so even if you aren’t planning on coming to the test, come to class to get your workout for the day out of the way!
We should all be so proud of ourselves for completing the February Burpee Challenge. I know my burpees have improved tremendously. Have yours?
We can keep this going! There are people who do 100 day burpee challenges. You’ve already completed 28 days of it–you’re over a quarter of the way done. Today, do 29. Tomorrow? 30. Break it up throughout the day. You don’t have to do them all at once.
Ok, so if 100 days of burpees don’t excite you, then maybe we should just continue to include burpees in our everyday workouts. Why not do 3 sets of 10 each day? Try variations on a theme–jump higher, jump to the side, forward or back. Jump over someone. Jump up to a pull up or muscle up. Add a squat. Have fun with it!
Want a heart pounding, quick workout? 10 burpees on the minute for 10 minutes. That’s 100 burpees folks.
Hope you enjoyed this challenge. There will be more to come!
